Barcelona face the threat of an early elimination from the Copa de la Reina, with their victory over Osasuna being appealed by their defeated opponents due allegations that they fielded a suspended player.
Barça ran out 9-0 winners on Tuesday evening to book their place in the quarter-finals and continue their bid for a fourth consecutive Copa de la Reina.
Bruna Vilamala netted a hat-trick, Salma Paralluelo and Aitana Bonmati both registered braces and Mariona Caldentey and Geyse Ferreira were also on the scoresheet.
However, it is the inclusion of Geyse that is the source of contention. The Brazilian forward joined Barcelona from Madrid CFF in the summer transfer window, and was sent off in the quarter-finals of last season's competition for her former side in an extra time 2-1 defeat to Sporting Huelva.
The forward levelled the scores six minutes before the break, before being dismissed in the second half.
With Madrid CFF exiting at the quarter-final stage, Geyse's Copa de la Reina suspension was not served prior to her move to Blaugrana. Tuesday's round of 16 victory over Osasuna was Barcelona's first match in the competition this season.
In an official statement released by Osasuna, the club confirmed they would be appealing the result due to Geyse being fielded, labelling it an 'evident infraction of the regulations'.
SPORT report that Barcelona coach Jonatan Giraldez claimed in his post match press conference that the club were unaware that Geyse was suspended for the fixture as it did not appear in the RFEF disciplinary records.
The Catalan giants have won five of the last six Copa de la Reina titles and are vying to secure a domestic double for a fourth successive season.
Should Osasuna's appeal be successful, Barcelona face elimination from the competition.
