Human remains unearthed by police in Pueblo West last October were recently identified as those of a missing Colorado Springs man. The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating the death as a homicide.
According to a Jan. 21 CSPD news release, 28-year-old Santino Cardella was reported missing in April 2022. Police say they received information that “foul play may have been involved” in his disappearance and later received additional information that Cardella was “possibly buried somewhere in Pueblo,” according to the release.
Police obtained a search warrant for six parcels of land in Pueblo West and executed those warrants on Oct. 7, at which point human remains were located. Those remains were later identified as Cardella.
The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, Pueblo Police Department and Colorado Bureau of Investigation assisted CSPD in executing the warrant, according to an Oct. 7 post on X by the PCSO.
“While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, this is being investigated as a homicide,” CSPD officials said in Tuesday’s release.
CSPD’s investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact CSPD at 719-444-7000. To remain anonymous, call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 719-634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
