An 26 year old outside linebacker from Baltimore Ravens died on Wednesday.

“We have been profoundly saddened by the tragic passing of Jaylon Ferguson,” the team said in a statement. “He was a kind, respectful young man with a big smile and infectious personality. We express our heartfelt condolences to Jaylon’s family and friends as we mourn a life lost much too soon.”

Officers responded to a home at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Tuesday in the northern part of Baltimore, where they found Ferguson unresponsive and being treated by medics. Ferguson never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead on the scene by medics, according to police.

Officials from Baltimore Police said there was no sign of trauma found or foul play suspected at this time. The body of Michael Brown has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office, where a cause of death will be determined. Police officials are not ruling out the possibility of an overdose, a spokesperson said.

Ferguson, a third-round drafting pick by the Ravens in 2019, had participated in all of the team’s offseason practices this year. It appeared that he had worked hard to be in the best shape of his career and drop significant weight.

“Sack Daddy” is a nickname for someone who has a lot of sacks in football. This name was given to Kevin Ferguson coming out of Louisiana Tech in his college years because he accumulated 45 sacks during his two seasons and he had 67 tackles and 4.5 sacks over the course of his three professional years as well.

“Louisiana Tech football team tweet condolences to their former Bulldog player Jaylon Ferguson,” LA Tech tweeted today. “They added, ” The group also expressed their prayers and thoughts to the family and friends of Ferguson.”

The Memphis Grizzlies drafted Michael Ferguson with the 85th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Despite being drafted as a guard, he spent much of his first year on the bench, helping his hometown of Ruston, Louisiana, recover from a deadly tornado that took place during the draft. He helped search for people while removing uprooted trees from the street. He also helped bring water and pizza to people in need.

“The last person I talked to leaving the facility was Patrick Queen. He spent almost every day at the sauna trying to see who would survive longest. He said it was our turn this year man,” Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen tweeted.

Ferguson has three children, all of whom are under the age of 5 years.

Ferguson, who had a heart abnormality and was apparently not expected to live past his sixth birthday, died in a hospice. The family asked for fans to pray for him before he passed away.
