Early Life :

Elon Musk was born on 28 June 1971. He was raised in Pretoria, South Africa, in a family of three children of Maye Haldeman Musk and Errol Musk. His mother, Maye was a model and dietitian from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada whereas his father, Errol, was a South African electromechanical engineer, pilot, and sailor. Musk’s parents got a divorce in 1980 and he mostly lived with his father in the suburbs of Pretoria. He says it was not a good idea as his relationship with his father was severed as an adult. He has two younger siblings: a brother by the name of Kimbal who was born in 1972 and a sister called  Tosca who was born in 1974. His sister Tosca Musk, a filmmaker, is the founder of Musk Entertainment with which she has produced various movies. He also has a half-sister and a half-brother.

Personal Life:

Musk was first married to Justine Wilson, a Canadian author. They first met at Ontario’s Queen’s University where they were both students. They got married in 2000 but separated in 2008. The couple’s first son, Nevada Alexander Musk, died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at the age of 10 weeks. They have five sons whose custody they share and were all conceived via  In Vitro fertilization (IVF). In 2004, they were blessed with twins and with triplets in 2006.

Elon began dating Talulah Riley, an English actress, in 2008 and got married to her in 2010. He made the announcement that he had ended his four-year relationship with Riley in January 2012. Their relationship was rekindled and they remarried in July 2013. Musk filed for a 2nd divorce in December 2014 before withdrawing the action.

It was again announced in March 2016 that there were divorce proceedings that were underway, this time with Riley filing for divorce. It was finalized in late 2016. In the same year, Musk began dating American actress, Amber Heard. They, however, split after a year due to conflicting schedules.

Education:

At age 17, in 1989, Musk moved to Canada to attend Queen’s University and avoid mandatory service in the South African military. Musk obtained his Canadian citizenship that year, in part because he felt it would be easier to obtain American citizenship via that path.

In 1992, Musk left Canada to study business and physics at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in economics and stayed for a second bachelor’s degree in physics.

After leaving Penn, Musk headed to Stanford University in California to pursue a PhD in energy physics. However, his move was timed perfectly with the Internet boom, and he dropped out of Stanford after just two days to become a part of it, launching his first company, Zip2 Corporation in 1995. Musk became a U.S. citizen in 2002.

Musk conceived the idea of making it possible for computer users to find a local business at a time when computers were not yet ubiquitous. He launched Zip2 in 1995 with his brother Kimbal and friend Greg Kouri, along with the help of some investors. Musk described the company’s mission by saying that everyone ought to be able to find the closest pizza parlor and to be able to figure out how to get there after about a year, in early 1996, Mohr Davidow Ventures agreed to invest some $3 million in Zip2 in exchange. In early 2012, approximately two-thirds of SpaceX stock was owned by Musk, and his 70 million shares were then estimated to be worth US$875 million on private markets valuing SpaceX at US$1.3 billion. In May 2012, SpaceX advertised a launch price of $57 million on Falcon 9, while Arianespace was advertising a launch price of $137 million per launch.

TESLA:

In 2004 he became one of the major founders of Tesla Motors. Elon Musk contributed more than $30 million to the new venture and served as chairman of the company, beginning in 2004.In 2008 tesla motors released its first Car, the completely electric Roadster. According to Musk, the purpose of Tesla is to help expedite the move to sustainable transport and energy, obtained through electric vehicles and solar power. The first car Roadster was followed by the Tesla Model S sedan in 2012, the next Tesla Model X SUV in 2015, the Tesla Model 3 sedan in 2017, and the Tesla Model Y crossover in 2020.
In June 2021 Tesla became the first electric car to sell 1 million units globally. In October 2021, Tesla’s market capitalization reached US$1 trillion, making Tesla only the sixth American company to accomplish this feat.
