Cupid is an American singer and songwriter from Lafayette, Louisiana. He is best known for the 2007 line dance single “Cupid Shuffle”. Bernard started singing in church and later joined the high choir, encouraged by his father. He left track to form a singing group that became part of Fifth Element. After they disbanded he pursued a solo career. He sang at venues such as talent shows, weddings and funerals. His five-octave vocal range earned him the nickname “Cupid”.

Music career

In 2001, the artist’s self-released first single, “Do Ya Thang” won airplay in his region. His second self-released album, 2005’s The King of Down South R&B, gained radio airplay in North and Central Florida. In January 2007, shortly before the release of his 2003 project Time For a Change, he was signed to Atlantic Records. His first single from that album, “Cupid Shuffle”, peaked at No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 21 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Since then the has gone double platinum and gets roughly 6,500 new downloads each week. His other singles including “One Night Stand” and “Don’t Be Shy” also became hits upon their releases in 2003 and 2007 respectively. In 2008, Cupid broke the record for creating the largest line dance. The event took place in Atlanta during Ebony’s Black Family Reunion Tour and had an attendance of over 17,000 people.
