Triangle of Sadness, a TRT co-production, is nominated for best picture at the Oscars

“Triangle of Sadness” has also been nominated for best original screenplay and its director Ruben Ostlund for best director at the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony.

“Triangle of Sadness”, directed by Ruben Ostlund and co-produced by Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), has received three Oscar nominations, including best picture.

Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams announced the nominations on Tuesday at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.

The film “Triangle of Sadness” recently dominated the European Film Awards (EFA), winning Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Male Performance.

Also capturing the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or top prize, the film shows models and the ultra-rich on a cruise ship who find their status suddenly undermined by unexpected events.

It faces nine competitors for the Academy Award for best picture: “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “The Fabelmans,” “Tár,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Elvis,” “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and “Women Talking.”

Its director, Ostlund, was also nominated for best director and best original screenplay for “Triangle of Sadness”.

Many of this year’s top contenders are films that drew moviegoers to multiplexes, while streaming services dominated last year’s Oscars.
