Real Madrid were completely outplayed in the final of the Spanish Super Cup by Barcelona, and suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Xavi’s side. What was expected to be a close game turned into a no contest, with the Catalan giants the far better team on the night while Los Blancos struggled to get anything of note going.
It was hard to find anyone who stepped up to the plate for Real Madrid in the final. It was in line with their recent performances as Los Blancos’ form has completely dipped for a while now.
One man who particularly struggled on the night though is Antonio Rudiger. Questions have been raised about the German centre-back this season, as he has failed to make the impact that was expected of him, after he arrived as a free agent in the summer following a superb run at Chelsea.
On Rudiger’s performance against Barcelona, a report from Marca goes on to read:
Pictured in two goals. With problems throughout the game to play from behind, a bad ball to Camavinga ended in Barça’s first goal. In the second, he poorly defended a borderline two-for-one situation. He was a continuous danger with the ball at his feet.
It is safe to say that Rudiger has struggled in recent times and the criticism will only intensify after what was a poor performance in the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona.
It's been six months and I truly have serious concerns about Rudiger being Real Madrid material. Has been sooooo disappointing so far.

One seriously has to wonder whether Real Madrid made the right move by bringing in Rudiger in the summer.
It is important to remember that the German international was fantastic at Chelsea for only his last 18 months or so at the club under the management of Thomas Tuchel. During that period of time, he was truly one of the best centre-backs on the planet.
But was it a matter of him fitting perfectly in Tuchel’s system? Because before the German manager replaced Frank Lampard, Rudiger was pretty much the fourth choice centre-back at Chelsea and was expected to leave the club.
