Woman Sent the Wrong Personalized Gift Finds Rightful Owner 2 Years Later

A woman received the wrong personalized mug in the post, then she was united with the rightful owners two years later, sparking the start of a friendship.

TikTok user Lorraine Deacy (@lamby7), from Beverly, Massachusetts, shared a video featuring a mug covered in photos of a couple named Scott and Nate. The post garnered more than 1.7 million likes and over 13.8 million views, captivating the internet.

“I received the mug in an order from an Etsy shop. I was expecting two mugs, but my order only had one of mine and a mug with a cute couple named Scott and Nate,” Deacy told Newsweek.

“I let the shop know and they reshipped my correct mug and told me to keep the Scott and Nate mug. They looked like the sweetest couple and I’ve been drinking coffee out of it every morning for 2 years.”

The mug, adorned with the words “The Best Is Yet To Come—Scott and Nate—2022,” is a touching tribute to the couple’s love story.

Two years later, Deacy decided to share the story of her mug on TikTok, and the internet worked its magic. Within hours, the couple were found, leading to an unexpected connection.

“The internet found them in a matter of hours, and they invited me to their wedding next year! We’re looking forward to meeting in person, and I’m so happy I posted the TikTok,” Deacy said.

Scott and Nate, who post on TikTok as @delllanodelllano, were equally thrilled. “We’re happy you love our mug! Nate + Scott,” they commented.

Scott also revealed how the mix-up had puzzled them for years. “I’m literally dying right now! How random! My sister sent us these mugs two years ago for Xmas and they never arrived. Now we know why! Love that you kept them!” wrote Scotty Sherman.

Sentimental gifts like Scott and Nate’s mug hold deep meaning, as they represent cherished memories and personal connections.

Lifestyle website Real Simple says that personalized items such as photo mugs, engraved keepsakes, or handwritten notes often evoke strong emotional ties, making them especially treasured.

Social-media users were delighted by the serendipitous story, sharing similar experiences of mistaken or misplaced gifts.

“I feel like I’m meeting my long lost besties. I’m speechless,” Deacy responded to the enthusiastic comments.

“Now I want a Scott and Nate cup too,” said one user, Elisa.

“I hope Scott and Nate got your mug and drink coffee with you every morning,” added another.

One commenter shared their own story: “Someone left a custom painting of their dog holding a glass of champagne at a hotel I worked for. They never retrieved it. It’s been on my bathroom wall for like 13 years.”
