Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

Tiger Woods is mourning the devastating loss of his mother, Kultida Woods, who was 81 years old.

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Woods posted to his Instagram on Tuesday, February 4. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”

Woods, 49, finished his tribute with a mention of his two children with ex-wife Elin Nordegren. “She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”

Justin Timberlake was one of many celebrities who left condolences in the comments section, using four red hearts to show his support. Mark Wahlberg also used emojis to share his feelings, posting two hands up images on either side of a red heart. Actor Garcia wrote, “May she rest in peace!! Blessings,” and Erin Andrews commented, “So sorry” followed by two red hearts.

Kultida was most recently seen one week prior to her passing, watching Woods play in two matches for his indoor league, TGL, a joint venture with Rory Mcllroy. The camera showed Kultida cheering in the crowd, and at one point, Woods smiled and yelled, “Hey, Mom!”

Woods has long credited his parents for their support during his career, calling his mom “The Enforcer.” His father, Earl Woods, died of cancer in 2006.
