David Arquette has shared his honest reaction to the news that Neve Campbell won’t be returning for Scream 6.

There is a lot to be excited about in horror right now. Some of the best horror movies returned to theaters and Neve Campbell recently announced she wasn’t going to star in the sixth Scream movie.

Scream fans were disappointed yesterday when Neve Campbell issued a statement about not playing Sidney Prescott in the developing sixth movie. She cited pay negotiations as the reason why she was sitting out of the slasher, seemingly putting the project into limbo in the process.

David Arquette was killed off in the most recent sequel to every Movie he starred in so far, with his last role being with Sarah Jessica Parker in the Craft. He was recently asked by ComicBook about resigning from acting and responded honestly with:

I would love for she to be a part of this. It is unfortunate that a Screem movie without Sidney is possible, but I understand her decision behind it all. It is all business, they have to balance out the various elements in order to produce a budget and make the film work. I get it that she’s still alive and she can absolutely be in future ones but I think it’s up to fans to call for that in the future.

Well, there you have it. Because it’s hard to imagine a sequel without Neve Campbell’s scream queen who has been in all three of the original “Scream” movies. And while David Arquette doesn’t think actors should change their minds but admits that he’d love to see Neve Campbell return in the new movie, hopefully actress can change her mind and agree to do the film.

Campbell left the film due to what was reported by The Hollywood Reporter as a dispute with producers over money. But then, there was no guarantee she’d be back anyway.

Without David Arquette, the upcoming sixth movie might be the least connected to the main characters. With no Dewey and Sidney, it might be up to Courteney Cox to carry on the torch of Wes Craven’s original movies as Gale Weathers. Luckily another returning player is coming back on the big screen in Hayden Panettierre’s Kirby from Scream.

The cast of Scream 6 is coming together, with the directors behind the horror franchise, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, once again. Four actors who lead the cast of Scream 5 are returning for this slasher, as well as newcomer Dermot Mulroney.

Scream 6 is expected to release on March 31, 2023 and in the meantime, you can check out the movie release dates for 2022.
