Around 400 pounds of sausage products are being recalled on Monday due to an undeclared allergen not being listed on the packaging, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS).
Why It Matters
UP Products, LLC, doing business as Meyer Wholesale, announced the recall as the sausage product contains soy, which is a known allergen, the FSIS says. The product was shipped to retail locations in Wisconsin and Michigan.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), millions of people in the U.S. have food allergies or food sensitivities. Food sensitivities can range from mild reactions to potentially life-threatening symptoms. According to the FDA, the major food allergens are milk, eggs, sesame, fish, tree nuts, Crustacean shellfish, peanuts, wheat and soybeans.
As of Monday, there have been no illnesses or known reactions related to the recall, the FSIS says. Newsweek has reached out to the USDA via email and UP Products via phone call for comment on Monday night.
What To Know
Below is a list of the recalled products:
- “Otto Meyer’s Premium Sausage POLISH SAUSAGE.” This product has lot code numbers of 24304, 24318, 24326 and 24346 visible on the product’s sticker. The sausage is in a 5-by-8 vacuum-sealed package.
- “Otto Meyer’s Premium Sausage POTATO SAUSAGE.” The product has dates of January 6, 2025, and January 7, 2025, visible on the label. The product is in 12-by- 24 clear bag bulk packaging.
Both products have an establishment number of “EST. M1733” visible on the USDA mark of inspection, the FSIS says.
The FSIS says that the issue regarding the affected product was first spotted during routine “in-plant verification” when FSIS employees noticed the product contained soy but it was not listed on the “finished” packaging.

The FSIS says in part in its alert on Monday: “FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumer’s, retailer’s and restaurants’ refrigerators or freezers. Restaurants, retailers and consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to serve, sell, or consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
“FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.”
