Before her respective marriages to Kanye “Ye” West and Kris Humphries, Kim was married to music producer Damon Thomas. They wed in 2000 when Kim was 19 and divorced in 2004.
Kim reflected on their split on the latest episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians — including how her baby sister, Khloé Kardashian, helped support her during the divorce.
She said, “When Khloé was like, just maybe four or five years old, she got this piggy bank that was, like, as tall as us, and it was like a Coke bottle, and we would put so much money in it. And when I was getting my first divorce, I moved out, and I had no money.”
Khloé said Kim was “crying in my room” one day when she offered her the money from her life savings: “I was just like, ‘Okay, I have this Coke bottle, like, let’s take what’s in here and let’s go to the bank and let’s cash it and let’s use this money for your divorce.'”
Kim said it amounted to $6,000 and was “just enough” for a down payment on an apartment, plus the first and last month’s rent.
She later paid Khloé back, gifting her a piggy bank full of cash for her birthday.
“For her birthday, I found the same Coke bottle piggy bank, and I filled it up and was like, ‘Thank you,'” Kim shared. “She gave me her life savings at like 21 years old. She couldn’t believe I remembered the Coke bottle, and I was like ‘How could I not?'”
The episode chronicles Khloé’s 40th birthday last June, which featured a Dollywood theme, a musical performance by Snoop Dogg, and more. Watch the episode now on Hulu or Disney+.
