An owner beamed with pride after spotting her dog calmly sitting with the neighbor’s sheep and lambs, but in a split second that all changed with his hilarious reaction to them moving.
Kathrine Jensen lives next to a sheep farmer, which her golden retriever, Bailey, had taken a special interest in ever since they moved in about four years ago. The sheep and lambs aren’t always in the field next to their house, but Bailey sits and admires them when they are.
“When we first moved into this house, Bailey had never seen lambs before!” Jensen told Newsweek via email. “He was very fascinated by them and would just sit and stare at them for ages by the fence.”
However, as her recent TikTok video revealed, Bailey can’t sit still the whole time. Jensen said he’s usually calm for about a minute, but when a lamb makes a move, he is off. In the clip posted to the account @goldenlifeofbailey, Bailey started off “so well” until he got a spurt of energy and started running back and forth along the fence.
“I think he thinks the sheep and lambs are dogs, and he wants to play with them!” Jensen said.
However, his energetic movements in the video made the sheep and lambs run away, which happens every time, Jensen explained. Luckily for Bailey, the animals don’t leave him alone for too long.
“What people also cannot see from the very short video clip is that Bailey and the lambs would keep coming back to the same spot and then do the whole thing over and over again,” she said. “It was like a game for them!”
Sometimes, however, Bailey gets “a bit frustrated.” He hates that the fence blocks him from playing with them, which results in him barking.
“I have tried to explain to him that he scares them away when he barks, but I am not sure he understands,” Jensen said. “He just gets so excited.”
Cows will even visit Bailey, Jensen said. And if he’s really lucky, they’ll give him kisses through the fence, which he loves.
“Bailey has always been fascinated with farm animals since he was a puppy, especially cows, lambs and horses!” she said. “We love to go on adventures in the mountains and forests, but sometimes it is nice to just go and watch all the farm animals in the fields. Bailey will sit down and refuse to walk back home, even when the weather is bad! He could sit and watch them all day.”
