Dell Inspiron 15 5585 Laptop Review

AMD-powered Dell Inspiron 15 5585 has been replaced by Intel-powered Dell Inspiron 15 5585. The reasons for this are not just different CPU chip technologies but also changes in the chassis, motherboard, battery life, and overall performance parts of the two machines.

The Dell XPS, Asus ZenBook, and HP Spectre laptop series are high-end laptops. They’re not just more expensive than the Lenovo Yoga 900 range.

The Dell Inspiron 15 5585 is a great choice for people who want power without breaking the bank. It has all the features you need, including an AMD Ryzen 7 2700U processor and plenty of memory (8GB).

This laptop comes with Windows 10 Home 64-bit installed! So, if you’re looking for a fast computer for doing all your game-playing or word processing, you should be able to find one that fits the bill here. You can take a look at our full review below.

About Dell Inspiron 15 5585

The Dell Inspiron 15 5585 is a mid-range laptop with a solid set of features and value for money. Its display, however, isn’t the best and its battery life could be better.

 Design

The Dell Inspiron 15 5585 has a simple and stylish design. It comes in multiple colors, including silver, rose gold, and gray. The laptop weighs under four pounds for a 15-inch convertible. It’s made completely of plastic, but the laptop doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy.

Dell Inspiron 15 5585’s quality is questionable. The hinge doesn’t sit flush with the chassis and there is an uneven gap between the two. Pushing down on the outer lid or the center of the keyboard makes for a slight-moderate flexing of the chassis, which feels hollow and less firm than it should be.

There is minimal creaking and twisting around the corners as with this relatively new model of Dell Inspiron 15 5585. On the other hand, older Asus VivoBook systems, like on some VivoBook models released a decade ago, have more noticeable creaking and twisting that can be classified as base instability.

Display

When it comes to the display, Dell Inspiron 15 5585 has a panel that is similar to the recently released laptop Asus VivoBook S15 S532F. This similarity leads to their responsiveness, color space, and contrast.

The Dell Inspiron 15 5585 has a 15.6-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and is bright and colorful. It’s not the most accurate or vibrant but is quite reflective so it can be difficult to see in direct sunlight.

Performance

The Dell Inspiron 15 5585 is functional. It has an Intel Core i5-8250U processor and 8GB of RAM. This device can handle day-to-day tasks, such as web browsing and document editing, with ease. However, it will struggle with more demanding tasks, such as video editing or gaming.

Battery Life

The Dell Inspiron 15 5585 has good battery life. It can last up to 7 hours on one charge, which is pretty standard for a convertible laptop. However, the life of the battery will vary depending on how you’re using it. If you’re doing intensive tasks such as gaming or video editing, expect your battery life to be shorter.

Memory and Storage

The Dell Inspiron 5585 has a 1 TB hard drive. The speed of the HDD is 7200 RPM, so it can read and write files quickly. This laptop comes with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM. This type of RAM is all new and much more advanced than its predecessors. This is great because this means laptop batteries last longer giving Dell Inspiron 5585 a longer life.

Processor and Connectivity

AMD is claiming that its new Zen+ CPU will be 10% faster than its older CPUs, but we have mixed feelings about the claims. Results from CineBench show that Ryzen 7 2700U, Latitude 14 5495, and Ryzen 7 3700U all have nearly identical performance in multi-thread load. However, a slight increase in performance can be achieved by running CineBench R15 Multi-Thread on the 3700U in a loop. The difference in CPU performance between the Ryzen 7 2700U and the Ryzen 7 3700U is so negligible that it will be easy to switch from the 2700U to the 3700U.

The connectivity options for Dell Inspiron 15 5585 are many thanks to its wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4. And for seamless connectivity, Dell Inspiron 15 5585 utilizes 802.11ac for wireless, Bluetooth 4.2.

The laptop has USB connectivity options like 2 x USB 3.1 Type A (Gen 1), 1 x USB 2.0, and an HDMI port. Having a reliable laptop is important for most people today, which is why laptops are often bought by businesses and for home use.

Keyboard and Touchpad

This Dell laptop keyboard has backlighting. It will let you type, game, and work in the dark. The keyboard uses a standard layout enter key so you will not face any problems. You will need to install the backlight though.

This Touchpad has a larger size (10.5 x 8 cm) and a textured plastic surface. However, even when moving the cursor slowly, the feedback from clicking is still far too weak and should have been firmer.

Price

Intel Core i5-8265U processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB solid-state drive. Intel Core i7-8565U processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB solid-state drive. Dell Inspiron 15 5585 is priced at $799.99 for the base model and the top-of-the-line model with Intel Core i7-8565U processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB solid-state drive costs $1,199.99.

Final Thoughts

The Dell Inspiron 15 5585 is a good laptop. The specifications for this laptop are better than many other laptops in the same price range. The design and build quality are good. It has a large screen and the performance is also good. The battery life could be better but overall, it is a great laptop for the price.
