High ankle sprains can be tricky, and it would be believed that Mahomes would be kept out of action for at least Saturday’s game. However, the Chiefs quarterback has revealed he still plans to play, even through his significant ankle injury.

When speaking to reporters, Mahomes revealed treatment has gone well on his ankle.

“It’s a short amount of time, I thought we did a good job yesterday and after the game as well,” Mahomes stated.

“If I feel like I can play and go out there and win a football game, I will,” Mahomes added.

Mahomes revealed he plans to test out his ankle in practice this week to determine if he can suit up on Saturday. From his comments alone, it stands to reason that Mahomes is going to give it his best shot to be with the Chiefs on Saturday.

Interestingly, Mahomes also revealed he won’t “limit the game plan,” which could mean he will not step in the way of Carson Wentz taking first-team snaps in case his ankle is not processing the correct way.

The Chiefs losing Mahomes might severely impact their seeding in the playoffs. Kansas City is 13-1 and in the top seed, but the Buffalo Bills are right behind at 11-3. The top seed gets home-field advantage plus a first-round bye week.

Kansas City flourishes in playoff football at home, and Mahomes obviously gives the team their best shot at winning games. That is not to say Wentz isn’t a solid backup, but Mahomes often wills the team to win close games.

It will be interesting to see how Mahomes’ ankle holds up this week, but it appears he might want to force himself to give it a go regardless of the severity of the the injury.
