Bollywood personalities speak on ‘controversial citizenship law’

The Indian government on November 12 last week enacted a “controversial citizenship bill” under which non-Muslim immigrants from six faiths of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are Hindus, Christians, Parsis, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists. Citizenship is a provision.

Under this bill, the Citizenship Act of 1955 will be amended to make illegal immigrants of selected categories eligible for Indian citizenship. Under this law, Indian citizenship will be granted to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians who come to India from 3 neighboring countries before December 31, 2014.

Massive protests began in several cities in India, including New Delhi. Six people killed in the protests and also more than 100 injured.

During the demonstrations, due to the encroachment, the property of other institutions including Jamia Millia was also got damage.

And other actors and filmmakers were also opposed by Hindu extremists for speaking out on controversial citizenship law.

Indian political leaders criticize the bill Controversial citizenship law and call it ‘partition of India’. But now Bollywood personalities have also quietly recorded their protest against this controversial law.

Showbiz figures voicing opposition to controversial citizenship law include Mirza, Farhan Akhtar, and Sonakshi Sinha, among others. While several Bollywood personalities have protested against New Delhi’s Jamia Millia University students protesting against the controversial bill.

Actress Parineeti Chopra termed the controversial citizenship law as the “death of India’s democracy”. She made a statement that we should legislate but others’ opinions should also be respected.

Acting Diya Mirza has raised a voice against the ‘controversial citizenship law’ saying that:
‘her mother was a Hindu, her physical father was a Christian. While her upbringing father was a Muslim and all her documents contained a religion box. Still empty, will any religion decide whether I am Indian or not?

The actress further wrote that religion cannot declare her Indian or non-Indian. And she hopes that will not happen in the future.

Farhan Akhtar And Sonakshi Sinha

Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar wrote in his tweet the “Controversial Citizenship Amendment Act” and another controversial law passed this year. The National Register of Citizens, that read and think about the news that is happening across India.

Domineering actress Sonakshi Sinha shared the text of the Constitution of India. And wrote, “What we were, what we are and what we are becoming.”

According to the text shared by the actress, “We who live in India recognize the country’s constitution and the law as secular, sovereign and democratic.”

Actress Swara Bhaskar has also tweeted fans against controversial citizenship. And invited fans to participate in the protest against the law.

The actress shared a post on the protest against the controversial citizenship bill. Which said it was “standing together to redistribute India”.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, while recording his protest on the controversial citizenship bill, called the Modi government a fascist. And wrote that Indians can no longer be patient.

Actress Priyanka Chopra also supported the students of Jamia Millia New Delhi University. Protesting against the controversial citizenship law and termed police violence against the students as inhumane.

However, the actress did not explicitly raise her voice against the controversial citizenship law.
